Faster Broadband Speeds In The UK Means Better VoIP for Customers

Users in the UK of internet services like web based telephony from Vonage VoIP are going to see the quality of their services improve as wholesale provider BT upgrades its core infrastructure.

BT says it is in the middle of rolling out an upgrade to both its fibre to the cabinet (FTTC) and fibre to the premises (FTTP) networks.

BT has successfully trialled its new FTTP service in Cornwall, participants in the trial got to enjoy souped up broadband speeds, with the company hoping to offer the technology to all areas in the UK that are fibre enabled.

BT says it will implement a faster FTTC solution as early as the spring.

Olivia Garfield, chief executive of Openreach, said of FTTP: “Essentially, it could make our fastest speeds available wherever we deploy fibre. This will be welcome news for small businesses who may wish to benefit from the competitive advantage that such speeds provide.”

Recently BT announced its intention of offering broadband speeds as fast as 300Mbps to select parts of the country by early next year.
